action

The elite soldier Shane Wolfe and a team from the United States Navy SEALs free the kidnapped scientist Howard Plummer, who developed secret software called Ghost to manipulate rocket launch systems, but Shane is wounded and Plummer is killed. Two months later, Shane has recovered and is now supposed to protect Plummer's children, while Plummer's wife Julie travels to Switzerland with Shane's superior, Captain Bill Fawcett, to gain access to her husband's safe deposit box, which may contain clues to the whereabouts of Ghost .

The five children prove to be tough opponents for Shane. When the previous nanny Helga fled, the soldier, tempered by numerous dangerous missions, tried to cope with everyday problems with military drill and technical equipment. While he's out with Lulu's scout group "Fireflies", teenagers Zoe and Seth throw a party at home. When Shane breaks off the party, he finds a CD labeled "Ghost". The Chun couple from the neighborhood watched him and raided the house disguised as ninja fighters to get the CD. Shane is able to put them to flight, but finds that the CD only contains the film Ghost - Message from Sam .

Through this incident, Shane can secure the children's support. He makes a pact with them: He continues to demand obedience, but wants to be more responsive to their wants and needs. He is supported by the school principal Claire Fletcher, who used to be in the military and seems devoted to him. Shane works as a driving instructor for Zoe, defeats the annoying vice director Murney in a wrestling , helps the "Fireflies" to be more assertive against rival boy scouts and cares for the baby Tyler. He also takes on the direction of the musical The Sound of Music , in which Seth plays a leading role.

Just before Julie gets home, Shane discovers a secret room under the garage where Ghost is hidden. When the mother arrives with Fawcett, he turns out to be a traitor who wants to have Ghost for himself and sell. Together with the Chuns, he takes Julie hostage and demands from Shane to overcome the security devices in the secret room, which he succeeds thanks to the children's song "Peter Panda Dance". With the help of the children he has trained, from Claire and the family duck Gary, Shane finally defeats the criminals. Finally, Shane celebrates the premiere of Seth's musical with the family and Claire, and seals Claire's offer to work at her school in the future with a kiss.

Reviews

  • film-dienst 08/2005 or lexicon of international films : "Predictable babysitting comedy with a weak script, moderately funny ideas, an implausible leading actor and a family-friendly style that does not want to offend anywhere."
  • Dirk Jasper FilmLexikon: "An action hero like never before: Superstar Vin Diesel plays the leading role in this wonderful, thrilling and lovable comedy for the whole family."
  • Cinema : "[...] the muscle man, long acted as the action star of tomorrow, fails miserably because of his complete lack of humor. Arrogant and emotionless, he trudges through this film, which otherwise lacks warmth and originality. "
