Stage overview

As in the previous year, the “Race between the Seas” starts with a 16.9 kilometer team time trial. The next two stages will be completed in largely flat terrain, where mass sprints are to be expected. On the fourth, which is the longest of the race at 252 kilometers, and the fifth stage, there are also mountainous sections on the program; the fifth section ends on the Prati di Tivo . In contrast to previous years, longer mountains will be driven on in 2012. The overall ranking will be decided on the last day with an individual time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto . But the penultimate part of the day also has several smaller climbs.
