The 13th stage of the Tour de France 2019 took place on July 19, 2019. The stage was held as an individual time trial over 27.2 kilometers with start and finish in Pau .
Race course
The stage started at the Stade François Tissié from 2:00 p.m. to 5:19 p.m. in reverse order of the general standings at the end of the 12th stage. The finish line was on the Place de Verdun .
Yoann Offredo was classified in last place after the 12th stage and thus started. The Dane Kasper Asgreen set the first long-standing best times with 35:52 minutes. Only the Belgian Wout Van Aert was able to beat him in the interim times , but shortly before the flame rouge he hung himself in the gate in a bend and fell badly. He had a deep cut in his thigh and had to give up the tour. Only his compatriot Thomas De Gendt set a new best time of 35:36 minutes. The Colombian Rigoberto Urán was only 28 hundredths of a second slower than De Gendt, he finally placed himself behind the Belgian in provisional second place. The penultimate starter Geraint Thomas was the first at the finish to undercut Thomas De Gendt's time by 22 seconds. Julian Alaphilippe , the overall leader who started last, then distanced Thomas by 5 seconds at the first intermediate time, by 6 seconds at the second and by 5 seconds at the third intermediate time and took the lead in the time trial with a 14 second lead. For Julian Alaphilippe it was the second Tour stage win in 2019 after he had already won the 3rd stage in Épernay . In addition, Alaphilippe was able to further distance his pursuers in the overall standings, he was now 1:26 minutes ahead of Geraint Thomas and 2:12 minutes on Steven Kruijswijk .
