The 21st stage of the Tour de France 2019 took place on July 28, 2019. The 128-kilometer flat stage began in Rambouillet and ended on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris . The stage start was at 6:05 p.m. at Rambouillet Castle , the sharp start was at 6:13 p.m. northwest of Rambouillet. After crossing the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse regional nature park, the last two mountain classifications of the tour followed shortly after each other at Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Châteaufort . The drivers reached Paris via Toussus-le-Noble , Vélizy-Villacoublay , Meudon and Issy-les-Moulineaux . Following the right bank of the Seine , they drove through the Cour Carrée and the inner courtyard of the Palais du Louvre and drove past the glass pyramid that celebrated its 30th anniversary. Then they returned to the Rue de Rivoli and reached the traditional circuit on the Champs-Élysées via the Place de la Concorde , which had to be traveled eight times. The intermediate sprint was carried out on the third lap.
Race course
As usual on the last stage of a tour, the first half of the race was characterized by a very slow pace. With the beginning of the first final round, the pace increased. A top group of four from Omar Fraile , Tom Scully , Nils Politt and Jan Tratnik was able to form. Although they were able to pull out a maximum lead of around 30 seconds, they were overtaken in the sixth (Politt and Fraile) and seventh final laps (Scully and Tratnik). On the final laps the sprinters Sonny Colbrelli and Michael Matthews - the favorites for the stage win - had a defect and had to go back into the field. The Australian Caleb Ewan won the mass sprint ahead of the Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen and the Italian Niccolò Bonifazio . Ewan achieved his third Tour stage win in 2019 after winning the 11th stage in Toulouse and 16th stage in Nîmes .
