The 4th stage of the Tour de France 2019 took place on July 9, 2019. The 213.5 kilometer long flat stage led from Reims to Nancy . The stage start began at 12:10 p.m. in the Rue de Mars in Reims, the sharp start took place at 12:24 p.m. at Trois-Puits .
Race course
The transition stage from Champagne to Lorraine was shaped by a top group of three: Yoann Offredo , Frederik Backaert and Michael Schär . However, this was only able to work out a lead of a maximum of 3:45 minutes and was finally overtaken by the peloton over the last 20 kilometers - first Offredo, then Backaert and finally Schär, who was voted the most combative driver of the day. The Sunweb team then accelerated the pace before the last climb to shake off some sprinters from the field, but it failed.
Shortly after the last climb or about 10 kilometers before the finish, Lilian Calmejane tried his luck alone, but was caught again after his 4-kilometer solo run. Several sprint trains formed over the last few kilometers . At the Flamme rouge , the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team led the field, which was led by Julian Alaphilippe and replaced by his teammates Michael Mørkøv and Maximiliano Richeze , who were able to put their sprinter Elia Viviani in the limelight. Viviani won the mass sprint, ahead of Alexander Kristoff , Caleb Ewan and Peter Sagan . The leadership in the ratings remained unchanged.
