Flora and fauna

The natural forest communities of the Himmelpforter Heide are the beech - sessile oak forest and the blueberry - pine forest . The beech-sessile oak forest occurs today mainly along the Woblitz, often as a poorer blueberry-beech-sessile oak forest. In places there are richer training courses, for example as a woodruff beech forest on the peninsula in the Großer Lychensee. The blueberry-pine forest populates especially the dry sand locations . Near the shore and in some quarries are alder forests with Downy Birch ago.

In the Himmelpforter Heide there are moors with intermediate and raised bog vegetation in depressions without drainage . Examples are the Lange Bruch between Bredereiche and Himmelpfort, the Kiebitzbruch near Hahnshof and the Wolfsbruch south of the Stübnitzsee . A long bog channel extends south of Tangersdorf.

The Himmelpforter Heide is owned, among others, by the state of Brandenburg (Landeswaldoberförsterei Steinförde ), the district of Oberhavel and the Brandenburg Natural Landscapes Foundation . On the Woblitz there is a nature conservation station for the care of injured birds of prey on the residential area of the same name .
