Tučepi is a seaside resort in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea ( Makarska Riviera ) with 1,931 inhabitants (2011 census).
geography
It can be reached via the A1 Zagreb-Split (-Dubrovnik) motorway or the Adriatic Magistrale ( Jadranska Magistrala ). The municipality (1,931 inhabitants) is located in the Split-Dalmatia County . In addition to the main town Tučepi, the hamlets Podpeć, Čovići, Srida sela, Šimići and Podstup belong to it. Geographically, the village is located below the Biokovo Mountains and is opposite the islands of Brač and Hvar .
history
In the 6th and 7th centuries AD, Croatians settled in the area. In 925 Tučepi came to the newly founded Kingdom of Croatia under King Tomislav . In the year 1000 the Venetian fleet defeated Croatia. Tučepi and some other east Adriatic coastal towns and cities (with the exception of Dubrovnik ) came temporarily under Venetian administration. King Petar Krešimir IV recaptured the territories. After the collapse of Venice in 1797 and the brief reign of France , under Napoleon (1809–1813), Austria took control of Croatia. Later Tučepi came to the Kingdom of Dalmatia within the Danube Monarchy . Since 1918 it has belonged to the newly founded Yugoslavia . When the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was destroyed in World War II, the town became a municipality of the Independent State of Croatia when the fascist Ustaša came to power in 1941 . Tučepi has belonged to the Socialist Republic of Croatia since 1945 and to the Republic of Croatia since its independence in 1991.
tourism
Tučepi is the starting point for mountaineers in the Biokovo Mountains. The seaside resort also has hotels, guest houses, several kilometers of beaches and bathing bays. The white pebble beaches of Tučepi, which are lined with pine trees, are characteristic of the place and the area. The Antons Festival takes place on June 13th. Meetings of Dalmatian singing groups will follow until the end of the month.
Attractions
The single-nave Romanesque - Gothic St. Jure Church (Georgskirche) dates from the early 14th century. It was restored in 1992/93. Today it adorns the town's coat of arms.
