Tutong (also Malay Pekan Tutong , city ​​of Tutong ) is a city in Brunei and the capital of the district ( Daerah ) Tutong in the rank of Mukim (sub-district).

geography

The place lies in the coastal plain of Brunei. At Kampung Panchor Dulit and Kampung Panchor Papan , at the confluence of the Sungai Kelakas and Sungai Birau , a small hill rises to about 40  m .

The Sungai Tutong with its tributaries Sungai Kelakas, Sungai Birau and Sungai Bakiau , which flow together south of the town, is characteristic of the region . The Sungai Tutong meanders from there to the southwest until it flows into the South China Sea at Pantai Seri Kenangan .

The Mukim (Pekan) Tutong area is bordered by Keriam to the east, Kiudang to the southeast, Tanjong Maya to the south and Telisai to the west . The Perkhemahan Tutong barracks are located in the north of the town center . The Kuala Belait Highway is the city's main artery.

history

The area of ​​what is now the city of Tutong was laid out in 1929 when the Sanitary Board was established and the area under its administration was designated as the Sanitary Board Area . The main task of the Sanitary Board was to monitor the cleanliness and the construction of the city. In 1970 the board was renamed Lembaga Bandaran Tutong (Tutong Municipal Board).

The Tutong Municipal Department ( Malay Jabatan Bandaran Tutong ) administers the city of Tutong. It is a department of government under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and consists of the Lembaga Bandaran . Pengerusi Lembaga Bandaran (Chairman of the Municipal Board) is responsible for the board and thus the department . The incumbent is currently (2018) Haji Azmi Haji Abdul Rahim . The municipal department is primarily responsible for collecting taxes and collecting royalties and leases for areas owned by the department.

The urban area covers 2.4 hectares and also includes the settlements of Kampong Petani and Bukit Bendera . Kampong Petani and Bukit Bendera are kampong and are administered by the Tutong District Office , another department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

There is only one state primary school, Muda Hashim Primary School , but three other private primary schools: Bakti Dewa School , Chung Hwa School , PERTAMA School . The Chung Hwa School is one of two Chinese schools in the district. The second is in Kiudang .

There are three secondary schools in the city: Muda Hashim Secondary School and Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School are secular schools, while Ma'had Islam Brunei School offers secondary religious education with Arabic as the main language of instruction. All schools are located in Bukit Bendera .

There is no school in Tutong City that offers university entrance qualifications. A Tutong Sixth Form Center is located in Bukit Beruang about 12 km from the city center.

Facilities

Kompleks Dewan Kemasyarakatan is a venue for community events. The Ramah Mesra , a festival in honor of Hassanal Bolkiah , is held every year in the Kompleks and the neighboring Padang . The festival usually takes place in July in conjunction with the Sultan's birthday celebrations.

Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque is the only mosque in Tutong and also serves as a religious center for the surrounding kampong , Kampong Panchor Dulit , Kampong Panchor Papan and Kampong Serambangun .

Tutong Sports Complex offers sports fields for different sports.

Kompleks Pasarneka dan Tamu Tutong is a wet market (fresh market where meat and groceries are sold).
