The Pontifical University of Comillas ( Spanish : Universidad Pontificia de Comillas ) is a papal university and one of the most famous academic institutions in Spain .
history
It was founded on December 16, 1890 in Comillas ( Cantabria ) by Pope Leo XIII. as a Catholic seminary for the formation of priests.
In 1968 it was decided to move the facility completely to Madrid. Here the university has two campus facilities, one in the Instituto Católico de Artes e Industrias (ICAI), founded in 1908 , which functions as a center for technical courses, and one in the Instituto Católico de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ICADE), the center for law - and economics.
There are about 10,000 students enrolled. The college is run by the Jesuit order and the leading members of the university management belong to the Jesuits. José Ramón Busto Saiz is the rector and thus administrative director of the university . The respective superior general of the Jesuits acts as chairman of the supervisory body (chancellor) .
The former university building is owned by the regional government of Cantabria and will in future house the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores del Español (CIESE or Fundación Comillas). Its headquarters are currently in the Palacio de Sobrellano .
