University of Tromsø - Norway's Arctic University ( Norwegian Universitetet i Tromsø - Norges arktiske universitet ; North Sami Romssa universitehta - Norgga árktalaš universitehta ) ( UiT for short ) is the sixth largest university in Norway and the northernmost university in the world with around 15,500 students and 3,300 employees . After several merger processes, campuses have existed in the following cities since January 2016: Tromsø , Alta , Hammerfest , Harstad and Narvik . There are also branch offices in Kirkenes , Bodø , Mo i Rana and UNIS in Longyearbyen .
The University of Tromsø is currently divided into eight faculties and four scientific centers, which offer a total of around 150 courses. The Norwegian Fisheries School is an independent higher education institution in association with the University of Tromsø.
