Guerino Vanoli Basket is an Italian basketball club from Cremona in Lombardy .

history

The association was founded in 1999 as US Gruppo Triboldi Basket in Soresina , a municipality in the province of Cremona . After promotion to the top Italian league Serie A, Triboldi Basket merged with Juvi Cremona in 2009 and has played in Cremona since then. The association is sponsored, among others, by the Vanoli DIY store from neighboring Soncino . In September 2011 Aldo Vanoli took over the presidency of Secondo Triboldi and renamed the club in honor of his father.

The club played in the third Italian division Serie B1 since 2001 and rose to the second division LegADue in 2006 . There he occupied places in the top third of the table in the following seasons. In 2009, after a third place in the table in the main round, a victory in the play-offs made it possible to achieve the remaining promotion position to Serie A. Then the merger with Juvi Cremona and the move to the capital of the province took place. In his first first division season Vanoli Cremona reached 13th place in the table, which could only be improved slightly with 12th place in the following season. After a weak start to the 2011/12 season, in which they slipped to the bottom of the table, they reached tenth place in the final table after a coach change.

In the 2010/11 season, there was the view of the German Basketball Bundesliga remarkable constellation that besides the since 2009 operating in Cremona point guard Earl Jerrod Rowland, 2009 German Vice Champion and Cup finalist with Telekom Baskets Bonn , the actors Je'kel Foster and Jasmin Perkovic , both 2009 German champions with EWE Baskets Oldenburg , and Blagota Sekulić, 2009 German cup winner with Alba Berlin , played in one team.

After the 2016/17 season, Cremona ended up in last place in Serie A but was able to avoid relegation to Serie B, as the better-placed Caserta was withdrawn from the top division due to economic problems. In the summer of 2017, Meo Sacchetti took over as coach and led the team into the play-offs in his first season. In the following 2018/19 season, the first national title was won with the cup .
