Location of the former administrative community in the Stendal district

In the administrative community of Osterburg in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt , eleven municipalities were united to carry out their administrative business. In addition to the originally six municipalities (Düsedau, Erxleben, Königsmark, Krevese, Meseberg and the city of Osterburg (Altmark)), the municipalities of Ballerstedt, Flessau, Gladigau and Rossau from the dissolved Altmärkische Höhe administrative community were added on January 21, 2005 the communities of Hindenburg and Walsleben . Hindenburg was incorporated into Hohenberg-Krusemark on December 31, 2008 . The administrative seat was in the city of Osterburg (Altmark) . On July 1, 2009, the Hanseatic City of Osterburg (Altmark) was formed from the member communities.

The Osterburg administrative community is located in the north of Saxony-Anhalt. It includes part of the north-eastern Altmark and the south-western part of the table-level Wische . In the west, the Osterburg administrative community bordered the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel ( Gladigau district ). The Uchte flows through the area of the administrative community, which flows into the Biese in Osterburg (this flows as Aland into the Elbe ).

Agriculture and small craft businesses characterize the villages in the northern Altmark (in the Wische Weidewirtschaft ). The great distance to the motorway network is viewed as unfavorable for economic development. The administrative community is crossed by the federal highway 189 and the Magdeburg – Wittenberge railway line .
