2008 US presidential primary election results
This page lists the results of the primaries for the presidential election of 2008 in the United States on.
Delegates
The delegates of a state are divided among the respective candidates based on the results in the primaries (2008). The delegates elect their party's presidential candidate at national party conventions . The Democrats have had super delegates since 1982 . These are delegates who do not appear in the primaries. Most of these are incumbents and party officials. The Republicans , on the other hand, have obligated and unconditional delegates. Super delegates and non-obligated delegates are free to choose the nominee, which makes forecasts difficult. The allocation of super delegates and non-obligatory delegates is based on the non-binding statements of support, so-called endorsements , that they have made. The figures only include those who have previously made such a declaration. However, the final voting behavior of these groups of delegates may differ from previous expectations, as they can change camp at any time.

Individual results of the states
Those candidates who have withdrawn their applications (Joe Biden, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich , Chris Dodd , Bill Richardson , Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, Rudolph Giuliani , Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee) are marked with a footnote in subsequent primary elections.
All percentages are rounded. A score of 0% means that the candidate received less than 0.5% of the vote. In heavily populated countries, this can affect up to 20,000 votes received.
Due to the complicated preselection guidelines, other factors determine the proportion of delegates in addition to the voting share of the primaries and caucuses (conventions). These differ from state to state.
