The coat of arms of the Netherlands Antilles consists of a shield , a coat of arms crown and a banner.

The shield shows five blue five-pointed stars (2: 1: 2) on a gold background with a red border . The colors red and gold are believed to be related to the islands' Spanish past. The five stars represent the islands of Bonaire , Curaçao , Saba (island) , Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten . The crown above the shield is that of the ruler of the Kingdom of the Netherlands , the words Libertate Unanimus on the banner below the shield are in Latin and mean "unanimously in freedom".

original version

The coat of arms in its current form was adopted on January 1, 1986, when Aruba broke away from the Netherlands Antilles and gained its own status as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands . By then, the original version of the coat of arms was in use, which was adopted on October 23, 1964 and included an additional star for Aruba on the shield.

Since the dissolution of the country on October 10, 2010, the coat of arms is no longer in use.
