Washington County is a county in the state of Utah in the United States . The county seat is St. George .
geography
Washington County covers an area of 6,293 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the counties: Iron County , Kane County , Mohave County, Arizona, and Lincoln County, Nevada. In the eastern part of the county is part of the Zion National Park .
history
Washington County was founded in 1852. It is named after the first President of the United States, George Washington .

Washington County had a population of 90,354 people as of the 2000 census . There were 29,939 households and 23,442 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.57% White, 0.21% African American, 1.47% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.42% Pacific Islander, and 2.24% other races Groups; 1.65% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.23% of the population.
Of the 29,939 households, 37.10% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 67.60% were married couples living together, 8.00% were single mothers. 21.70% were not families. 17.50% were single households and 8.90% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.97 and the average family size was 3.36 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 31.20% residents under 18 years of age, 11.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.40% between 25 and 44 years of age, 17.80% between 45 and 64 years of age 17.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.30 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.40 males.
The median income for a household in the 37,212 USD , and the median income for a family was 41,845 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,275 versus $ 20,856 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,873. 11.20% of the population and 7.70% of families are below the poverty line. 14.60% of them were under 18 years of age and 4.20% were 65 years of age or older.
The county's population has increased a good ten-fold since the 1970 census.
