Karl Ferdinand Wilhelm Werner von der Schulenburg (born January 30, 1836 in Glogau , † October 9, 1903 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Werner came from the old Brandenburg nobility family von der Schulenburg . He was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant Colonel Wilhelm von der Schulenburg (1788–1866) and his wife Henriette, born von Bomsdorff (1798–1889). His older brother Otto (1834-1923) also embarked on a military career and made it to major general .

Military career

Schulenburg attended secondary school and grammar school in Dessau as well as the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . On May 1, 1855, he was transferred to the 20th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a characterized Portepeefähnrich . He was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-April 1857 , was assigned to the rifle testing commission in Spandau for a few months in the spring of 1860 and was transferred to the newly formed Infantry Regiment No. 60 at the beginning of July . With this association , Schulenburg took part in the battles near Windeby and Missunde , the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen and the transition to Alsen in 1864 during the war against Denmark . He was commended for his behavior, was promoted to Prime Lieutenant at the end of May 1864 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords.

From January 25, 1865 until the beginning of the war against Austria , Schulenburg was in command of the combined tribes of the Landwehr Regiment No. 20 as an adjutant . He fought with the 6th Company in the battle of Königgrätz and after the peace treaty was commanded as adjutant of the Landwehr district command in Kiel . With his promotion to captain on March 16, 1869, he was commanded as adjutant of the 11th division in Breslau . Left in this command, Schulenburg was transferred to the Westphalian Fusilier Regiment No. 37 on June 18, 1869 . This was followed on October 21, 1869 as an adjutant at the General Command of III. Army Corps . In this position he took part in the battles at Spichern , Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz in 1870/71 during the war against France . Schulenburg was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and in mid-November 1873 was transferred to Prenzlau as a company commander in the 8th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 64 (Prince Friedrich Carl of Prussia) with a patent from September 24, 1867 . With promotion to major , he worked from September 21, 1876 to February 3, 1882 in the Department of Personal Affairs in the War Department. Subsequently appointed commander of the 2nd battalion in the 3rd Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 71 in Erfurt , Schulenburg became a lieutenant colonel and regular staff officer in the Hohenzollern Fusilier Regiment No. 40 in Cologne on January 26, 1884 . On April 16, 1887, Schulenburg was initially commissioned with the command of the 6th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 52 in Cottbus under position à la suite . As a colonel , he was the commander of this regiment from May 14, 1887, and was awarded the Commander-in- Chief of the Bavarian Order of Military Merit by his regiment chief Arnulf von Bayern .
