Weather presenter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A weather presenter or weatherman is a person who, in today's news broadcasts of radio or television , the weather moderated . With the help of maps, weather presenters show the viewer the forecast for the weather in the coming days. A study of meteorology is not a requirement.

The term weather fairy is often used in media jargon for women in this profession . This term is also used by television companies in public relations , for example at MDR , SRF or kabel eins . The term weather lady is also used in Austria , for example at ORF . Male weather announcers are sometimes jokingly referred to as weather frogs .

Use of blue screen technology for the backdrop at IFA 2005 in Berlin. The presenter is recorded in front of an empty blue wall. The television weather report ( ARD ) and presenter visible in the upper area of the image shows the finished television image for visitors to the exhibition hall by means of rear or front projection

Presentation technology

In the case of television presentations, weather announcers moderate the weather maps or animations that are displayed alternately. If the blue screen technique or image mixing technique is used, they point to a (for them empty) blue or green wall and must train the correct movements of the weather (only visible to the television viewer) beforehand. Since the view is partly directed to the fictitious weather maps, the texts cannot be read from the teleprompter and must either be read from paper, memorized or spoken freely. In order to avoid slip of the tongue and to present the broadcasts flawlessly, these weather forecasts are sometimes recorded beforehand and imported in good time.

Human weather moderators are being replaced by computer voices for telephone value-added services and mobile apps , and already by robots on television (for the first time Xiaoice as a robot weather fairy in China ).

Trivia

In 2008, the broadcaster Radio Hamburg was looking for Radio Hamburg's next weather fairy for the morning broadcast through a casting with audience participation .

White light can also contain green light components as a light color mixture. This was the undoing of a weather presenter when her white reflective dress was overlaid with the image of the green screen and the weather map appeared projected onto her dress . In order to avoid such errors, the dress code of the television companies usually stipulates that moderators of such programs should use low-reflective materials without blue or green tones (and without small-scale patterns to avoid moiré effects ).

Every year in Austria, the best moderated weather presentation on European television is awarded the “International Weather Summit Award”.

In Italy weather announcers often occur as showgirls on what the documentary Lorella Zanardo as humiliation of these women criticized objects and mere surface, "Young women, let himself grope and demonstration, presented as silly." .
