Whitney is the second studio album by Whitney Houston from 1987. It sold around 20 million copies and was thus able to build on the success of their first album Whitney Houston .
history
Compared to the first album, Whitney Houston , this one contains more pop elements. Narada Michael Walden produced seven of eleven tracks on the album, with some songs such as I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) he was based on the hit How Will I Know . Also producers of the first album like Kashif and Michael Masser worked on this album. Jellybean, who mostly collaborated with Madonna , produced the song Love Will Save the Day . Michael Masser wrote and produced Didn't We Almost Have It All for Whitney . You're Still My Man , his second song on the album, was originally intended for Houston's debut album Whitney Houston , but was postponed because Clive Davis found the song too "poppy". For the Love of You is a cover version of the Isley Brothers song from 1975. The song I Know Him So Well , a duet between Houston and her mother Cissy Houston , comes from the musical Chess and was originally written in 1984 by Elaine Paige and sung by Barbara Dickson . The cover was only released in Germany, Spain and Australia.
In a short time, the album reached the top positions in the charts in many countries and was awarded several platinum records . Over 20 million copies have been sold worldwide.
