Leitmotiv of the Dutchman

The Viennese premiere cast of the Flying Dutchman lists all those involved in the new productions of Richard Wagner's romantic opera The Flying Dutchman , which took place at the k. u. k Hofoper , today's State Opera, took place. The first performance in Vienna on November 2, 1860, which was still taking place in the Kärntnertortheater , was also taken into account . It is thanks to the composer and conductor Heinrich Esser (1818–1872) that he campaigned for the early Wagner operas. He had been working at the Court Opera since 1847 and directed it on an interim basis in 1860/61. In 1858 he brought about the inclusion of Lohengrin and 1860 of the Flying Dutchman in the repertoire of the court opera.

So far, there have been eight new productions in the Haus am Ring and in the alternative Theater an der Wien with a total of 833 performances until the theater ban in March 2020 due to COVID-19 .
