The Ostewiesen is there are a 121 hectare large lowland west of Kranenburg and Brobergen in the district of Stade . The official name is nature reserve meadow and pasture areas on the Oste and bears the NSG LÜ 271 label. The grassland area on the right side of the Oste was placed under protection in 1985.
Although it is flooded by the Oste during high tide, the lowland is intensively cultivated. It is characterized by a collection of scattered areas of reed that provide feeding and breeding grounds for a number of rare bird species such as the Montagu's Harrier , Marsh Harrier and Short-eared Owl . The occurrence of these bird species gave rise to the protection. In addition, the area is a resting area for many migratory bird species during winter .
