The Wild de Windsor ( English Windsor Wild ) were a Canadian ice hockey franchise from Windsor in the province of Québec . The team played one season in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey after relocating from Sherbrooke in 2011 .

history

Already from 1996 to 2003 there was a franchise from Windsor with the Lacroix de Windsor in the Ligue Nord-Américaine, which at that time was still called the semi-professional league Québec Semi-Pro Hockey League . In 2003, however, this team was relocated to Sherbrooke and renamed Saint-François de Sherbrooke . By 2011, the team was able to win the championship in the league, the Coupe Canam , twice .

In July 2011, the then owner of Saint-François sold the franchise to a group of three investors from the Estrie , who then decided to relocate the team back to Windsor after an eight-year absence. A month later, the new owners announced that the team would be renamed Wild de Windsor . Both the name and the new team colors were selected based on the Minnesota Wild from the NHL . For the 2011/12 season , the team then began playing in Windsor.

Since the Saint-François de Sherbrooke had won the title in the preseason, the team started as defending champions in 2011/12. The regular season ended the team in fourth place, which they could qualify for the playoffs. There you met the winner of the regular season, the Marquis de Saguenay , and could beat them in six games. Thus, the Wild de Windsor met the Isothermic de Thetford Mines in the final for the Coupe Canam . Both teams had finished the regular season with the same number of points. Although Windsor had already taken a 2-0 lead after two wins, the Isothermic managed to turn the series with four wins in a row and secure the championship.
