William J. Murphy (politician, 1912)

William J. Murphy (born March 12, 1912 in Wallace , Shoshone County , Idaho , †  August 20, 1993 in Coeur d'Alene , Idaho) was an American politician . Between 1977 and 1979 he was Lieutenant Governor of Idaho State .

Nothing is known about William Murphy's youth and schooling. There is also no information about his career outside of politics. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1958 and 1972 he was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives .

In January 1977, Governor Cecil D. Andrus was appointed Secretary of the Interior by US President Jimmy Carter . Then Andrus gave up the office of governor, which fell to his previous deputy John V. Evans . This appointed William Murphy as his lieutenant governor. He held this office between January 28, 1977 and January 1, 1979. In 1978 it was not confirmed.

After the end of his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, Murphy was no longer politically active. He died on August 20, 1993 in Coeur d'Alene.
