Jack M. Murphy

Jack M. Murphy (born September 6, 1925 in Shoshone , Lincoln County , Idaho , †  May 3, 1984 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1967 and 1975 he was Lieutenant Governor of Idaho State .

Career

Not much is known about Jack Murphy's youth and schooling. He graduated from the University of Utah and must have studied law there or at another university because he later worked as a lawyer. In addition to this job, he was also a rancher. During the Second World War he was a sergeant in the US Army . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In 1966, Murphy was elected Lieutenant Governor of Idaho alongside Don Samuelson . He held this office after a re-election between January 2, 1967 and January 6, 1975. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Since 1971 he served under the new governor Cecil D. Andrus . In August 1972, he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach , on which President Richard Nixon was nominated for re-election. In 1974 Murphy ran for governor of Idaho but was defeated by Democratic incumbent Andrus. He died on May 3, 1984 in his hometown of Shoshone.
