Burpee L. Steeves

Burpee Laban Steeves (born July 7, 1868 in Albert County , New Brunswick , Province of Canada , †  October 23, 1933 in Salem , Oregon ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Idaho .

Career

At the age of five, Burpee Steeves came to Prince Edward Island , where he later graduated from Prince of Wales College . Until 1888 he worked as a teacher. After a subsequent medical degree at Willamette University and his license as a doctor in 1894, he began to work in Silverton in this profession. In 1897, he moved his residence and medical practice to Idaho. There he struck a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In 1904, Steeves was elected Lieutenant Governor of Idaho alongside Frank Gooding . He held this office between January 2, 1905 and January 7, 1907. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor Steeves worked in Salem as an ear, nose and throat specialist. In 1914 he was elected mayor of Salem for one year. He then continued his medical career. In 1918 he was elected President of the Oregon State Medical Association . He held this office until 1920. He died on October 23, 1933 in Salem, where he was also buried.
