AR McCabe

AR McCabe (born June 1, 1896 in New Westminster , British Columbia , Canada , †  May 24, 1985 in St. Maries , Idaho ) was an American politician . He was Lieutenant Governor of Idaho State in 1946 and 1947 .

Career

AR McCabe first lived in Sedro-Woolley, Washington state before moving to Plummer , Idaho, where he attended high school. He then studied at the University of Idaho . During World War I he served in the United States Navy . He served as a teacher in Benewah County for some time before studying dentistry at the University of Oregon until 1926 . In the same year he began practicing as a dentist in St. Maries. He practiced this profession until he retired in 1972. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In the 1930s he was Mayor of St. Maries; In the early 1940s he was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives . In 1943 he led the local democratic faction.

After the resignation of Governor Charles Gossett , Lieutenant Governor Arnold Williams took over his office according to the state constitution. Gossett's resignation was a coordinated matter with Williams, who immediately named his predecessor to succeed the late US Senator John W. Thomas upon taking office . Williams served as governor between November 17, 1945 and January 6, 1947. McCabe was elected to his side as Lieutenant Governor, who held this post between March 20, 1946 and January 6, 1947.

McCabe was then a member of the Idaho Senate , where he was also Democratic leader. In the 1950s he served on his state's education committee and a board member of the University of Idaho. He also became president of the Idaho State Dental Association . A. R. McCabe died on May 24, 1985 in St. Maries.
