Origin and family

Wolf Friedrich was a member of the noble family Bomsdorff, who came from Niederlausitz .

He married Anne Sophie von der Marwitz , sister of the later Brandenburg general Kurt Hildebrand von der Marwitz (1641–1701), daughter of Balthasar von der Marwitz (1600–1657) and the Emerentie von Rohr adH Schöneberg. Several children arose from the marriage.

Career

Before joining Kurbrandenburg, Bomsdorf had at least served in the Swedish military. In 1656 he was still a major there , but rose to lieutenant colonel at the latest in 1658 during the Second Northern War, where he was in the field in Poland .

In 1664 he acquired the Altranft estate . The first renovation work took place there under his rule . In the years 1670 to 1678 the manor house was expanded into a baroque palace. His son finally sold the property to Samuel von Marschall in 1739 .

On October 9, 1665, the Great Elector had a dragoon regiment built for him with six companies of 100 soldiers each . On May 11, 1666, the companies were assigned their garrisons in Crossen , Züllichau , Sommerfeld , Drossen , Reppen , Zielenzig and Cottbus . The head strength was only 200 men when the regiment was to abdicate with the establishment of the Magdeburg Citadel together with the Schöningschen Reuters .

On June 13, 1672 Bomsdorff advanced to colonel and recruited a dragoon regiment for the elector, with which he was in the field against France . Here he was first captured on February 3, 1673 near Unna and again immediately before the battle of Türkheim on January 5, 1675 near Ruffach with 250 men.

From 1668 to 1676 he is said to have commanded a regiment on foot and was also the leaseholder of the Freienwalde office around this time . From 1674 he was in command of Oderberg . Likewise, on June 29, 1677, he is supposed to be the infantry regiment “v. Gotze ”. In 1678 he was the commandant in Kolberg .

Bomsdorf had also been the heir to Welsickendorff.
