Wolfgang Kunert (born March 21, 1943 in Teplitz-Schönau , Sudetenland ) is a retired German civil servant who was Regional President of the Upper Palatinate from December 2004 to March 2008 .

After graduating from the humanistic New High School in Nuremberg , Kunert studied law in Erlangen , Hamburg and Munich . In 1967 he passed the first state examination in law in Munich, where he received his doctorate. jur. The Second State Examination followed in 1971 in Munich.

In 1971, Wolfgang Kunert began working for the government of Upper Bavaria , and in 1972 he moved to the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior. From March 1977 onwards, Kunert was head of the public safety and order departments as well as the municipal and school system at the Munich district office before he took over the position of head of the municipal system in 1979 in the government of Upper Bavaria. In March 1981 he worked again for the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, as a consultant in the area of ​​municipal finance, then as head of the area of ​​economic activity in municipalities, municipal wealth management. From December 1985 he took over the position of head of the department for local government, public security and order for the government of Upper Bavaria.

From 1989 to 2001, Wolfgang Kunert was chairman of the Association of Higher Administrative Officials in Bavaria (VHBB) and a member of the main board of Bayer. Beamtenbundes (BBB) ​​and member of the board of directors of the Federal Association of Civil Servants in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Kunert acted as the government vice-president of Upper Bavaria from May 2002 and was appointed regional president of the Upper Palatinate in December 2004. He held the office of regional president until March 2008.

He is an honorary member of the Oberpfälzer Kulturbund .
