Yaniv Yakov Green ( Hebrew יניב גרין; * May 16, 1980 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli basketball player . The greatest success of the long-time national player is the title win in the ULEB Euroleague 2004/05 with Maccabi from his hometown Tel Aviv, who won a triple crown in connection with the double win in the national competitions that season . After working in Russia and Italy , among others , Green also won the international club competition in the Balkan League (BIBL) with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in 2013 . Green has been playing for Hapoel Jerusalem since the 2013/14 season.

Career

Green moved from the youth teams of Bnei from Herzlia to the senior team in the highest Israeli league Ligat ha'Al and also took part in the international competitions of FIBA Europe as a youth and junior selection player. Together with his club-mate Tal Burstein of the same age , they won the semifinals of the 2000 European Junior Championships in Macedonia against a talented Spanish junior team, including Pau Gasol , José Calderón and Felipe Reyes , who lost their only tournament. The title win was just missed after a 65:66 defeat against the Slovenian junior selection, which was led by Sani Bečirovič and Boštjan neighbor . At the Junior World Championship a year later they won the first four games, including against an Argentinian junior selection led by Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino . Then they lost against the US juniors and surprisingly in the quarterfinals against the Dominican Republic's junior selection. After another defeat against the Spaniards, they finished seventh after a victory over Australia. Subsequently, Green also played with the Israeli men's national team in the 2001 European Championship finals , in which they lost to the Spanish national team in the qualifying game before the quarter-finals .

While Burstein had switched to the dominant series champion Maccabi Tel Aviv after the European Junior Championships in 2000, Green returned to Bnei Herzlia for a season in 2001 after a year at Maccabi from Ra'anana . In 2002 Green also moved to his hometown Tel Aviv, but initially played for two years for local rivals and first division returnee Hapoel. At the 2003 European Championship finals , Green achieved seventh place with the national team. In the elimination game, in which they defeated the Slovenian national team this time , Israel moved into the quarter-finals, in which they were defeated by the eventual European runner-up, Spain, and lost their chances of participating in the 2004 Olympic Games. With Hapoel, Green moved into the Final Four tournament in the 2003/04 FIBA Europe League , in which the Greek club GS Marousi clearly lost 64:92 in the semifinals . In the "small final" for third place in an open game after extra time a 112: 104 was achieved over Ural Great Perm from Russia. In the play-off final series of the Israeli championship of the 2003/04 season, Hapoel defended defending champion Maccabi smoothly in three games, which ensured winning a triple crown after winning the ULEB Euroleague 2003/04 . For the following season, Green moved to Maccabi and was kicked off the highest ranked European club competition ULEB Euro League 2004/05 equal to one of the best players, which is why it because of its effectiveness as an MVP Award of the match. Maccabi was able to defend all of its title wins in the 2004/05 season and win another Triple Crown. At the 2005 European Championship finals , Israel lost the qualifying game before the quarter-finals against eventual European champions Greece . In the following ULEB Euroleague 2005/06 Green moved with Maccabi as defending champion again in the final, but this time it was lost to CSKA Moscow. After missing the third triplet in a row, coach Pini Gershon switched to Olympiacos Piraeus and Maccabi's previously self-evident successes were no longer as desired. In the 2006/07 season Maccabi lost the title in the national cup competition and failed in the quarter-final play-offs of the ULEB Euroleague 2006/07 again to defending champion CSKA Moscow, so that at the end of the season it was only enough to win the title again in the national championship.

At the 2007 European Championship finals , Green was the tournament's best rebounder and narrowly missed a so-called double-double with just under twelve points and a good nine rebounds per game . Nevertheless, Israel only managed one victory over the winless Serbs in the preliminary round . After the opening win in the second round against Croatia , a disappointing defeat against Portugal followed , so that against hosts and world champions Spain a victory was necessary at the end of the second round in order to make it to the quarter-finals with the better direct comparison against Croatia. In this game, however, they were clearly defeated with a difference of 26 points 73:99. This meant that one again missed participation in the Olympic Games. In the 2007/08 season Green played for the Russian club ZSK WWS from Samara before returning to Maccabi Tel Aviv a year later, who also brought back coach Gershon. In the ULEB Euroleague 2008/09 , however, they were eliminated for the first time in six years before the quarter-finals. After you had not won the national cup competition, you saved the season when you could get back the title in the national championship at the end of the season. At the 2009 European Championship finals , Israel lost all three preliminary round matches and was eliminated early. In the following ULEB Euroleague 2009/10 Maccabi moved back into the quarter-finals, in which they were favored and with home rights in the play-off series, KK Partizan Belgrade was defeated. The interim title in the cup competition could no longer save the season after losing again in the championship final. Gershon had to resign and his former assistant David Blatt was brought back and took over again. Under leaf they remained sovereign in national competitions in the 2010/11 season and only lost one game of the season when they won the championship and cup. In the ULEB Euroleague 2010/11 , it was also enough to make it into the final, in which Panathinaikos Athens was able to regain the title. At the 2011 European Championship finals , Israel lost the first three preliminary round matches, including clearly against Germany at the start . The subsequent two victories at the end of the preliminary round were no longer sufficient for qualifying for the intermediate round.

In the 2011/12 season Green played again abroad and moved to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A to Banca Tercas from Teramo in Abruzzo . The team reached fourth from bottom place in the table at the end of the season and received no license for the following season for economic reasons. Green returned to his homeland and played for Hapoel Gilboa Galil from the Northern District in the 2012/13 season . As a visiting team in the Balkan International Basketball League (BIBL) you could defend the title win of the previous year. At the 2013 European Championship finals , Israel again lost the first three preliminary round matches. After beating Belgium , this time they lost to Germany at the end of the preliminary round. In the 2013-14 season, Green played for Hapoel from Jerusalem . In the last sixteen of the Eurocup 2013/14 they were able to prevail against the German representative ratiopharm Ulm , but were eliminated in the quarter-finals against BK Nizhny Novgorod . After finishing second in the regular season of the national championship, Hapoel lost the play-off semi-final series against defending champion Maccabi Haifa .
