Zapadna Backa or Western Backa ( serb. Zapadno-Bački okrug or Западно-Бачки округ , Hungarian. Nyugat-Bácskai körzet , slowak. Západnobáčsky okres , kroat. Zapadnobački okrug , rum. Districtul Backa de Vest ) is a Serbian administrative district in the western part of the Vojvodina . It borders Croatia to the west and Hungary to the north . The administrative seat is the city of Sombor .

According to the 2011 census, this district has 187,581 inhabitants.
At the 2002 census, the Serbs made up the majority of the population (62%), other ethnic groups were Magyars , Bunjewatzen , Croats , Russians , Slovaks , Montenegrins and others.

Culture and economy
Sombor is a city with a rich cultural tradition. The Roman Catholic Church, the Franciscan Monastery from the 18th century , the Perish House from the early 19th century , the large and small Orthodox Church in Stapar are monuments that bear witness to the long history of this city.
Nowadays, Sombor has an area of 1,000 km² of agricultural land, so agriculture plays an important role in this district, as does livestock.
The economic focus of the district is on metal processing (Bane) , the Sombor battery factory, the Zrvena Zastava car factory , the Dunav shipyard and the food industry ( Sunce and Somboled ).
The district is also developed through inland waterways of the Danube-Tisza-Danube canal system, especially the Great Batschka Canal .
