Zeno Vinzenz Graf von Goëss (born October 26, 1846 in Graz , † May 14, 1911 in Klagenfurt ) was kuk chamberlain and real secret councilor , Austrian officer, estate administrator and politician, long-time governor of Carinthia .

Life

Zeno Goëss was the older brother of the governor of Trieste Leopold von Goëss , nephew of Count Johann Anton von Goëss and head of the secondary school. Although he was first educated, he lived at Gradisch Castle and left Ebenthal to his brother Leopold because he was married and had many children (1891). After the early death of his father Peter Karl (* December 17, 1807 in Graz; † February 26, 1852 in Vienna ) he was under the tutelage of his mother Maria Johanna, nee Countess von Welserheimb Freiin zu Gumptenstein (* May 6, 1824 in Graz ; † December 4, 1896 in Vienna).

He graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt and then served as a lieutenant in the imperial and royal dragons before he devoted himself to politics.

The Count was a member of the Carinthian Landtag from 1880 to 1909 , then was elected to the Austrian Imperial Council as a representative of the curia of the large estates in 1888 and worked there until the beginning of 1897. He also acted as hereditary master table master in Carinthia.

Goëss became Governor of Carinthia in the era of Prime Minister Count Badeni on January 26, 1897, replacing the liberal politician Joseph Duclas Erwein in this office. In this function he was particularly committed to the construction of the state hospital and the artists' house . In 1903 he commissioned a bust of Emperor Franz Joseph for the reception room in the Klagenfurt country house from the famous Austrian sculptor Josef Valentin Kassin . The well-preserved sculpture in Carrara marble has been kept in the Klagenfurt State Museum since 1919. He held the office of governor until September 21, 1909. The count also had Gradisch's church tower and school house built.

He was an honorary citizen of numerous Carinthian communities. A street in Villach is named in his honor. There is a Zeno Goeß path in the Moosburg district of Ratzenegg .
