Metallica is an American Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band formed in 1981, and consists of vocalist and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. One of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands, Metallica has sold over 100 million albums, and has won seven Grammy Awards. Overall, Metallica has received 25 awards from 47 nominations.
