Adolf Wilhelm Fetter , von Fetter since 1890 (born July 27, 1846 in Cologne , † January 26, 1919 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

Fetter was the son of a Prussian prime lieutenant a. D. and Secret Billing Council . He attended a private school and grammar school in Mainz and the Friedrichs Realschule in Berlin.

On May 1, 1864, Fetter joined the replacement battalion of the Brandenburg Fusilier Regiment No. 35 of the Prussian Army as an avantageur . With this regiment he fought against Denmark in the same year and was used in the battles for the island of Alsen and at Höruphaff . Promoted to secondary lieutenant on October 11, 1865 , Fetter took part in the battles of Münchengrätz and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . He acted from October 1, 1868 for one year as adjutant of the III. Battalion in Brandenburg and was then commanded for further training at the War Academy . He had to break off this prematurely in July 1870 because of the Franco-German War . From July 20, 1870, Fetter was an orderly officer of the 11th Infantry Brigade and was used in Mars-la-Tour , Gravelotte , Artenay , Orléans and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz . Promoted to Prime Lieutenant on February 7, 1871 and awarded both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements , Fetter resumed his studies at the War Academy on October 1, 1871.

After the successful completion, he was transferred to the Holstein Infantry Regiment No. 85 and on May 1, 1874 he was assigned to the General Staff for one year . From September 15, 1876 to September 15, 1881 Fetter worked as a teacher at the War School in Erfurt . He was then appointed as captain to company commander in the Holstein Infantry Regiment No. 85. In the same function, from January 12, 1884, he was in command of the 2nd Company in Infantry Regiment No. 131 in Paderborn . Promoted to major on March 2, 1886 , Fetter was promoted to the regimental staff on April 1, 1887 and was appointed director of the Neisse War School on September 17, 1887 under position à la suite of the regiment .

Fetter was raised to hereditary nobility in 1890 by Wilhelm II .

From March 22, 1891, Fetter served as director of the newly created Hersfeld War School , was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 16, 1891 and in mid-December of the same year as a regular staff officer in the infantry regiment "Duke Friedrich Wilhelm von Braunschweig" (East Frisian) No. 78 Relocated to Osnabrück . On May 14, 1894 he was assigned to Württemberg , where Fetter took command of the infantry regiment "Kaiser Friedrich, King of Prussia" (7th Württembergisches) No. 125 while being promoted to colonel . From this position he was released on July 20, 1897 and as major general commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade. On April 18, 1901, Fetter was given the post of Feldzeugmeister and, as such, a month later he was promoted to Lieutenant General . The inspection of the technical institutes of the infantry, the artillery and thus all rifle, powder and ammunition factories, artillery workshops, gun foundries as well as the design offices and artillery depots were subordinate to him. He was also responsible for the train inspection.

On September 15, 1904 Fetter was awarded the character with the general of the infantry board for disposition made.

After his departure he lived in Berlin .

On September 25, 1879, Fetter married Mathilde von Winterfeld (* 1858), daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Wilhelm von Winterfeld .
