Agios Konstandinos in 1980 |
The village of Agios Konstandinos ( Greek Άγιος Κωνσταντίνος ( m. Sg. )) Is located on the north coast of the Greek island of Samos about 7 km northwest of Kokkari and 7 km east of Agios Nikolaos .
Agios Konstandinos consists of the older district of Pano Agios Konstandinos (Pano Chorio) and the younger Kato Agios Konstandinos (Kato Chorio). The village of Agios Konstandinos is named after the church of the same name, a former metochi of the Moni Vronda monastery . At the time of the hegemony , Agios Konstandinos was the seat of the community Exi Gitonies (Έξι Γειτονιές, "Six Neighborhoods"), which still included the villages of Nenedes , Stavrinides , Manolates and the now abandoned settlements Margarites and Valeondades.
Nothing is known about the origins of the village, but like the other nearby villages and hamlets it was probably founded by people from Vourliotes .
The mountainous but fertile environment favors viticulture , but fruit and horticulture are also practiced. In addition to viticulture, tourism offers an additional source of income in the summer months.
With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Agios Konstandinos was incorporated into the municipality of Vathy . After the merger of the former municipalities of the island after the administrative reform in 2010 to form the municipality of Samos ( Δήμος Σάμου Dímos Sámou ), the correction in 2019 in two municipalities means that the place belongs to the municipality of Anatoliki Samos .
