Alexei Michailowitsch Markow ( Russian Алексей Михайлович Марков ; Alexey / Alexei Markov ; born May 26, 1979 in Moscow ) is a former Russian cyclist . He started at five Olympic Games .
Career
Markow became a professional cyclist in 2001. He achieved his first successes in 2004 on the Normandy Tour for his team CCC-Polsat . In 2005 he then moved to the Spanish-Portuguese team Milaneza-Maia . There he won several stages in Portuguese stage races . Among other things, on the Algarve Tour and the Grande Prémio Correios de Portugal . In 2006 and 2007 he drove for the Spanish ProTeam Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears and in 2008 for the Russian team Katjuscha Continental Team .
Five times - 1996 , 2000 , 2004 , 2008 and 2012 - Markow started at the Olympic Games in various disciplines on the track and won a total of three medals. 1996 in Atlanta with the track four ( Eduard Gritsun , Nikolai Kuznetsov and Anton Schantyr ) silver in the team pursuit . In 2000 in Sydney he won the bronze medal in the points race and eight years later in Beijing also bronze together with Michail Ignatjew in the two-man team race .
From 2012 Markow drove for RusVelo . At the end of the 2012 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist. Since then he has worked as the sporting director for RusVelo.
Alexei Markov is the son of the 2012 deceased cyclist Mikhail Markov , who at the 1967 UCI Track Cycling World Championships behind Bruno Walrave vice-champion of the Amateur - stayer was.
