The vehicle has independent suspension and front-wheel drive . In addition to a four-cylinder gasoline engine with two overhead camshafts, a two-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine with reverse scavenging and Roots scavenging fan was available as the drive source . The petrol engine is the same as in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta .

The first Romeo was called "Romeo", "Romeo T10" or "Autotutto", most vehicles were built as "Romeo 2" from 1954 to 1966. The "Romeo 3" with improved hydraulics was only available in 1966.

A total of 23,000 copies of this first generation were built in Italy and under license in Spain by FADISA (Fabricacion de Automoviles Diesel SA). The Spanish vehicles had a different engine.

From 1967 to 1971 the variants F11 and A11 were also available, which with their reduced payload and maximum performance were also approved in Italian city centers.

In 1977 there was a final facelift of the front with a black plastic grille and the Alfa emblem in chrome, there were also other headlights and bumpers. The dashboard has also been redesigned.

Production ended in 1983 and the Alfa Romeo AR6 replaced the model.

FADISA / Ebro F series

Ebro F series

The Romeo was manufactured under license from Fabricacion de Automoviles Diesel SA (FADISA) in Spain , but had a Perkins diesel engine here.

Ebro took over FADISA in 1967 and continued to build their models. The Romeo II F11 / 12 and A11 / 12 have now become the " Alfa Romeo Ebro F-100 " in Spain . The facelift version of the Romeo A11 / 12 and F11 / 12 from 1977 was produced by Ebro - slightly revised - now under its own brand name as " Ebro F-108 ". After Nissan joined Ebro as the " Ebro F-Series ". After the complete takeover of Ebro by Nissan, the model - again revised - became the Nissan Trade , which was built until 2004.

In the end, the construction, albeit optically and technically changed, was built for 50 years.
