Amir Abrashi (born March 27, 1990 in Bischofszell ) is a Kosovar - Albanian - Swiss football player . He has been playing for SC Freiburg since the 2015/16 season .

youth

Amir Abrashi, son of Albanian parents from Kosovo , grew up in Bischofszell in Thurgau . In 2002 he attended the Thurgau sports day school TST in Bürglen . After Abrashi had moved to Winterthur with his parents , he switched to the talent school in Winterthur- Veltheim .

Club career

Amir Abrashi joined FC Bischofszell in 2002 . After a year he moved to FC Weinfelden-Bürglen ; there he played until mid-2005. Abrashi later joined the youth department of FC Winterthur and rose to the first team, for which he made his debut in the 2007/08 season (3 games, no goal). In his second season in 2008/09 , he played 24 games in the Challenge League . He scored his first goal for FC Winterthur in the 2-0 away win over FC La Chaux-de-Fonds . In the 2009/10 season he came to 28 games and three goals.

In the summer of 2010 he moved on loan with his teammates Innocent Emeghara and Emir Lenjani to Grasshoppers Zurich in the highest Swiss league, the Super League . Due to strong performances in the club, the Zurich team took him over for three years from summer 2011. On August 27, 2011 he tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee in the championship game against FC Luzern and was out of action for several months due to this injury.

For the 2015/16 season Abrashi moved to the German 2nd Bundesliga for SC Freiburg . With the Breisgauer he was promoted to the Bundesliga in spring 2016 , in which he played 33 games and 3 goals.

National team

Amir Abrashi played for the Swiss U-18 , U-19 , U-20 and U-21 national team. He was appointed to the squad for the 2011 European Under-21 Championship in Denmark and came on as a substitute. At the end of the tournament, he took second place with Switzerland and thus also bought the ticket for the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

Abrashi has been playing for the Albanian national football team since 2013 . At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Albanian squad and was part of the regular squad. He was one of the players who played all three group games over the full playing time. After the group stage, the team ended the EM with two defeats.

In the qualifier for the 2020 European Football Championship , he scored his first international goal in a 3-0 win against Andorra.
