Christian Günter (born February 28, 1993 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with Bundesliga club SC Freiburg . His main position is the left defensive side.
Personal
Christian Günter comes from Tennenbronn , a district of the large district town of Schramberg . He was born in the neighboring regional center of Villingen-Schwenningen. As a youth player at SC Freiburg, he commuted between Tennenbronn and Freiburg. He currently lives in the Freiburg district of Littenweiler . Günter is married and has a daughter (* 2020).
After graduating from secondary school , he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic in St. Georgen .
Career
As a youth player
At the age of four, Günter joined the FV Tennenbronn. At the age of 13 he was invited to trial training by SC Freiburg. From then on, he went through the club's youth teams. In summer 2012, he led the Freiburg A-Juniors as captain to win the DFB Cup .
Beginnings in professional football
For the 2012/13 season he was accepted into the club's professional squad. After Michael Lumb returned to Zenit St. Petersburg , he became the new substitute for the seeded left-back Oliver Sorg at the sports club. Günter was part of the professional team for the first time on November 17, 2012. He finally made his debut for the first team a few weeks later on December 8th in a 1-0 win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth . He was substituted on in the 77th minute for Vegar Eggen Hedenstad . His second game, again by substitution, he had in the DFB Cup on December 18 against Karlsruher SC . In total, he came to eight competitive games in his first season.
Günter made his first appearance in the 2013/14 season, in which the sports club started as a Europa League starter, in the DFB Cup against TSG Neustrelitz . In the following months he was used more often by coach Christian Streich , as two full-backs were temporarily canceled with Hedenstad and Mensur Mujdža . On September 19, 2013, he made his debut against Slovan Liberec in international competition, from which the team was eliminated after the group stage. In total, he came to 37 games for the first and three games for the second team in 2013/14.
In March 2014, he prematurely extended his contract in Freiburg. No information was given about the exact duration.
On November 8, 2014, the 11th matchday of the 2014/15 season, he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the 22nd minute in a 2-0 win against FC Schalke 04 . At the end of the season in which Günter was used in every Bundesliga game, the sports club was relegated to the second division. In the following season, however, he was able to celebrate the immediate resurgence with Freiburg and has since been a permanent regular in the position of left defender in the Freiburg Bundesliga team.
National team
Christian Günter made his debut for the U-20 national team of the DFB on October 12, 2013 at the four-nation tournament in Gemert . He was used from the start in the 4-0 win against the Dutch hosts and was later replaced by Tim Leibold from Stuttgart .
U-21 national coach Horst Hrubesch nominated Günter for the first time for two European Championship qualifiers in September 2014. He made his debut for the German U-21 national team over 90 minutes on September 5, 2014 in a 2-0 win over Ireland . To move into the main round, he was involved with three bets.
He made his international debut in the senior national team on May 13, 2014 in Hamburg in the 0-0 draw in the test international against Poland with a substitution in the 81st minute for Oliver Sorg .
In July 2016, Günter was nominated as a substitute for the German 18-man squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and won the silver medal with the team without a match.
