In the summer of 2011, he moved to the U-19 Bundesliga for the A-youth team at Karlsruher SC . In 19 games he scored six times and prepared ten goals.

Via Hoffenheim into the 2nd Bundesliga

In May 2012 he signed a two-year contract with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and was used in the second team . There he established himself as a regular player in the 2012/13 Regionalliga season and scored five goals in the first six games. On October 19, 2012, the 8th matchday of the Bundesliga season 2012/13 , he was substituted on in the home game (3: 3) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth by coach Markus Babbel in the 70th minute for Takashi Usami . A week later, his contract was extended to June 30, 2016.

On January 9, 2014, Grifo was loaned to Dynamo Dresden until the end of the season. He had more hours here than in Hoffenheim; Dynamo was relegated to the 3rd division at the end of the season. For the 2014/15 season he was awarded to the second division club FSV Frankfurt , where he secured a regular place at the beginning of the season.

Sc freiburg

For the 2015/16 season , Grifo moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for SC Freiburg . In return, Jonathan Schmid moved to Hoffenheim. With SC Freiburg, Grifo rose to the 1st Bundesliga. With 15 assists and 14 self-scored goals, including many directly converted free kicks, he was one of the top scorers alongside Nils Petersen . Grifo was also successful in the Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season with twelve assists and six goals. With SC Freiburg, he reached seventh place in the final table and thus the right to participate in the Europa League qualification.

Via Gladbach back to Hoffenheim and Freiburg

For the 2017/18 season , Grifo moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach and signed a contract that runs until 2021. He was used in 17 league games and scored no goal.

For the 2018/19 season , Grifo returned to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , where he signed a contract running until June 30, 2022. After he only made seven appearances (one goal) in the first half of the season under coach Julian Nagelsmann in the Bundesliga, he returned to SC Freiburg on loan at the beginning of January 2019 until the end of the season. In Freiburg, Grifo found his way back to good form and was immediately back on top of Christian Streich's team , where he had been seeded between 2015 and 2017.

After his return to the Kraichgauers, the Italian played once in the Bundesliga and in the cup, but at the end of the 2019/20 summer transfer phase, he switched to SC Freiburg for the third time, which signed him. According to press reports, the fee was seven million euros.
