Andrew Gordon (born December 13, 1985 in Halifax , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Linköpings HC in the Svenska Hockeyligan since June 2015 .

Career

The right winger first played from the 2002/03 season for the Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League , a Canadian junior league within the second-rate Canadian Junior Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round at position 197 by the Washington Capitals . After spending two seasons in the SJHL, the Canadian began studying in the US state of Minnesota at St. Cloud State University and went on the ice for their ice hockey team, the Huskies, in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . The right-handed shooter managed to continuously increase his points yield over the course of his three years playing in the university team, for which he was honored in the 2006/07 season with the nomination for the First All Star team of the WCHA. Following the striker received his first professional contract with the Washington Capitals for the AHL - Farm Team Hershey Bears winger in the 2007/08 season for the first time on the ice was, and he in 58 games of the regular season aground. In the same season, Gordon was also active for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL . During the 2008/09 season he made his debut for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League . The 2011/12 season he began in the NHL squad of the Californians, where he formed the third attack line at the start of the season together with Andrew Cogliano and Devante Smith-Pelly .

On February 27, 2012, the Californians transferred him to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Sebastian Erixon . These used him mainly in the farm team with the Chicago Wolves , where the Canadian was a regular until the end of the 2012/13 season. In July 2013, Gordon signed a one-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets . Also in Winnipeg he could not prevail in the NHL squad and was handed over to the AHL farm team of the Jets, the St. John's IceCaps , in September . After the season he left the IceCaps in the direction of Lehigh Valley Phantoms , where he also only played a year before he moved to Europe for the first time to Linköpings HC .

Gordon is considered a very fast winger who established himself as a reliable and constant scorer in the American Hockey League . He is generally seen as a not particularly physically strong player who has weaknesses in terms of points yield at the NHL level.
