Anselm Christoph von Bonin (born April 11, 1685 in Karzin , † February 2, 1755 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Bonin was a son of Christoph Ulrich von Bonin (* 1654, baptized August 6, 1654, † December 10, 1700), heir to Karzin, governor of Bublitz , Brandenburg district chamber councilor and retired cavalry master from Brandenburg . D. in the regiment "von Flemming" on horseback. Bonin's mother was Magdalene von Bonin, née von Puttkamer from the Treblin family (born March 15, 1659 in Treblin, † December 15, 1692 in Karzin).

Career

Bonin had started his military career in 1703 as an ensign in the infantry regiment "Christian Ludwig von Brandenburg" (No. 7) . From 1703 to 1713 he took part in campaigns in Germany and Italy , including the battle of Höchstädt , in which he was wounded, the battle of Cassano , the battle of Turin and the siege of Toulon. In November 1704 he was promoted to lieutenant and in January 1709 to staff captain .

On March 1, 1715, he was transferred to the “von Loeben” infantry regiment (No. 26) as captain and company commander . In 1715 he took part in the siege of Stralsund at the beginning of the Pomeranian campaign . In December 1718 he became a major in the "von Loeben" infantry regiment (No. 26).

In June 1727 he was transferred as a lieutenant colonel to the infantry regiment "Graf von Finckenstein" (No. 14) with a patent dated December 3, 1724. At the same time he was appointed governor of Memel . On February 17, 1733 he was appointed commander of the infantry regiment "Graf von Finckenstein" (No. 14). In 1734 he took part in the campaign on the Rhine. On January 1, 1735 he became a colonel .

On March 4, 1740, he received an annual pension of 500 thalers from the court treasury. In May 1740 he became Drost zu Blankenstein in the county of Mark .

During the First Silesian War (1740-1742) Bonin was awarded the order Pour le Mérite for his service in the Battle of Mollwitz and the Battle of Chotusitz . After he had already been promoted to head of the "Wedell" regiment on foot (No. 5) in July 1742 , he was appointed major general in mid-September 1742 . He remained chief of the regiment until 1755. On April 9, 1742, he took over the chairmanship of the new commission for the supply system in Magdeburg .

During the Second Silesian War (1744–1745) he proved himself in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg as well as in the Battle of Soor and the Battle of Kesselsdorf . In mid-July 1745 he was appointed lieutenant general with a patent from July 17, 1742. On December 26, 1745 he became a Knight of the High Order of the Black Eagle .

From June 18, 1747 he was in command of Magdeburg .

On July 19, 1721 Bonin had married Luise Christine Freiin von Loeben (* March 10, 1690, † April 19, 1722 in Berlin), daughter of General Kurt Hildebrand von Loeben , in Falkenburg . The marriage had three children, the first two of whom - a daughter and a son - died early. Luise Christine von Bonin died in childbed giving birth to her third child, son Friedrich Wilhelm (born April 19, 1722 in Berlin; † February 21, 1759 in Magdeburg). Like his father, this Friedrich Wilhelm became a soldier and married a daughter of Colonel Hans Ludwig von Bredow.

Anselm Christoph von Bonin, younger brother of Ulrich Bogislaus von Bonin (1682–1752) and older brother of Kasimir Wedig von Bonin (1691–1752), died at the age of 71. In his memoirs, Frederick the Great praised Bonin's special military services in the Silesian Wars, in the invasion of Lusatia and in the conquest of Dresden .
