Ars legendi award for excellent university teaching
The Ars legendi Prize for excellent university teaching, which has been awarded since 2006, is intended to underline the special importance of university teaching for the training of young academics. It is the highest German award in the field of university teaching.
price
The prize, endowed with 50,000 euros, is donated by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and the German Rectors' Conference. Its award is intended to create a career-effective incentive to get involved in university teaching. It also serves to promote the quality of teaching. The prize is awarded to a scientist - possibly also on behalf of a team - for their special overall work in teaching, in the sense of outstanding and innovative achievements in teaching, testing, advice and support in undergraduate studies. In addition to excellent didactics and teaching quality, it also depends on the extent to which the person concerned has given impulses for the further development of university teaching beyond his own courses. This also honors the overall personality of the award winner in terms of his role model function in teaching. From 2006 to 2012, the prize was awarded to a different specialist discipline or subject group. Since 2013 it has been awarded across disciplines for a specific teaching situation. The application is usually made on the recommendation of the faculties, student councils or professional groups; Self-applications are also permitted.
In addition to the Ars legendi Prize, the Stifterverband and the University Rectors' Conference have been awarding the Ars legendi Faculty Prize for excellent university teaching since 2010. This price is intended to stabilize the approach of the Ars legendi price. It is endowed differently depending on the subject.
