August Ludwig Traugott Botho Graf zu Eulenburg (born October 22, 1838 in Königsberg , † June 16, 1921 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general and minister of the royal house .

family

August came from the Upper Saxon nobility of Eulenburg . He was the son of Botho Heinrich zu Eulenburg and his wife Therese, née Countess Dönhoff . The later Prussian Prime Minister Botho zu Eulenburg was his older brother.

Life

After attending the Marienwerder high school , Eulenburg joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army on November 1, 1856 as a grenadier and was promoted to second lieutenant on April 13, 1858 . Between 1860 and 1862 he took part as an attaché in the East Asia expedition under Friedrich Albrecht zu Eulenburg . After his return in 1865 he became the personal adjutant of the Crown Prince of the future Emperor Friedrich III. In 1868 Eulenburg was appointed court marshal . He was also a member of the General Order Commission from 1879 to 1890. Between 1883 and 1914 he was the chief master of ceremonies. In addition, Eulenburg was upper court and house marshal of Wilhelm II between 1890 and 1914. He retired from active military service as a colonel in 1889 , but was promoted to major general in 1891 , lieutenant general in 1895 and, à la suite, to infantry general on October 18, 1904 . Between 1907 and 1918 Eulenburg was minister of the royal house and a member of the Prussian manor house .

After the November Revolution , he was General Manager of the House of Hohenzollern until his death .

August zu Eulenburg died in Berlin in 1921 at the age of 82. His grave is in the Trinity Cemetery I in Berlin-Kreuzberg. He rests there next to his wife Hedda geb. von Witzleben (1843–1928). The double grave of their sons Botho (1866–1880) and Victor zu Eulenburg (1870–1908) and the grave of August's older brother Botho (1831–1912) are also nearby.
