The Beutling is a 220 meter high mountain in the district of Osnabrück ( Lower Saxony ). 42.8 hectares of the densely forested baguette have been a nature reserve since 1937 .

location

The Beutling is part of the Teutoburg Forest , the main ridge of which it is upstream to the north. It is made of sandstone and slate . The mountain belongs to the area of Wellingholzhausen , a district of Melle . The mountain is located south of the center of Wellingholzhausen and west of the Wulfter Heide.

Observation tower

On the summit there is an observation tower of the home and beautification association Wellingholzhausen, 30 meters high, which was completed in 2000. The tower had several previous buildings. The first observation tower was built in 1891; he was ten meters high. In 1928 a second was built, which was also ten meters high. A 15-meter-high observation tower from 1939 was used for military purposes during World War II . In 1964 an 18 meter high tower was built, which was demolished in 1999 and replaced by the 30 meter high tower made of Douglas fir and metal. There is a refuge for hikers on the Beutling.

Between 1891 and 1956, the shooting range of the Wellingholzhausen shooting club was located on the Beutling.

Large parts of the bag have been a nature reserve since 1937. On the northern slope of the hill on Beutlingsallee there is the hiking car park “Am Beutling”, from which several hiking trails open up the area.
