The Okres Jablonec nad Nisou (German: Gablonz district ) was a regional authority in Liberecký kraj (Reichenberg region) in the Czech Republic . The Okresy were roughly comparable with the districts in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on December 31, 2002. The district was located in northern Bohemia and stretched from the Jizera Mountains to the Bohemian Paradise .
Okres Jablonec nad Nisou is one of the smallest districts in the Czech Republic with 402 km² and 90,528 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), but with a population density of 220 inhabitants / km² it is one of the ten most densely populated. In the Okres there are 34 municipalities (Obec) with 116 districts (část obcí).
55% of the area is covered by forests, 32% is used for agriculture. The Okres has 34 communities, seven of which are cities where 80% of the population lives.
A quarter of the 21,000 companies belong to the trade sector. However, the industry continues to be the main focus with the production of furniture, glass, porcelain and building articles. The largest employer is Preciosa. Agriculture hardly plays a significant role. The gross wages paid are below the national average, the unemployment rate is 8.2%.
The region is a tourist destination due to natural beauties and historical monuments. There are many cycling and hiking trails in the Jizera Mountains, and winter sports are very important. sights are
