Library of Science Fiction Literature

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Library of Science Fiction Literature is a series of books published from 1981 to 2001 by Wilhelm Heyne Verlag Munich and edited by Wolfgang Jeschke .

The titles of the series are novels , collections of short stories and themed anthologies by well-known authors from the fields of science fiction and fantasy (and, as an exception, a single non-fiction book ). The series brought together "outstanding works from these literary genres, which are considered milestones in their history and as exemplary attempts to show the possibilities of conceivable developments and to point out the dangers and problems of the present". Many titles were new editions of edited versions of texts that had already appeared in other editions, but there were also numerous titles that saw their German first edition (and sometimes also their only edition) in the library of science fiction literature .

On the cover, which is otherwise completely white (hence the nickname White Row ), there was the title of the series and the publisher's logo on the front cover, with the author and title centered in the upper half in black and colored letters. The lower half of the cover was dominated by a square, color-printed motif that was made exclusively for the respective volume.
