Personal
Baxter began his playing career like many other players in pool halls . When he was 14, he discovered his talent for pool games for money. By the time he was 16, he had made $ 5,000 . When he was old enough at the age of 18, he took up the game of poker. In 1975 he and his wife came to Las Vegas for their honeymoon . They lived in a hotel for nine months and Baxter started playing poker professionally.
Poker career
Career
During this time, Baxter met other players such as Doyle Brunson , Walter Pearson and finally Stu Ungar . His greatest merit towards the game of poker was probably the financial support of Hungary from 1990 onwards. Baxter won seven bracelets at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas . He won each of his bracelets in lowball games (the weakest hand wins). His tournament revenue is over $ 2.5 million .
Although known for helping Stu Ungar, Baxter has made even more contributions to the sport of poker. Billy Baxter's precedent versus the United States shaped his status as one of the most influential poker players. It was a court ruling according to which winnings from poker games are to be regarded as earned income. The US wanted these profits to be understood as capital gains and therefore taxable at 70%. Baxter won the lawsuit and laid the foundation for the professional game of poker.
In 2006, Baxter was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame .
