Bret Michael Hedican (born August 10, 1970 in Saint Paul , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 1147 games for the St. Louis Blues , Vancouver Canucks , Florida Panthers , Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks has played in the National Hockey League on the position of fullback . Hedican, of the national team of the United States at the Winter Olympics in 1992 and 2006 took part, celebrated his biggest career success in the service of the Carolina Hurricanes winning the Stanley Cup in 2006 .
Hedican is with the US since 2000 Figure Skating - Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi married.
Career
The 1.88 m tall defender began his career on the St. Cloud State University team from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , the left shooter was selected ( drafted ) as 198th in the tenth round of the St. Louis Blues .
In March 1992 Hedican was the first time for the Blues in the NHL on the ice, a few weeks later he finally scored his first goal in the highest North American professional game class. In the 1992/93 season, the defender commuted between St. Louis and their farm team , the Peoria Rivermen from the International Hockey League . From the following season Hedican finally belonged to the regular squad of the Blues, in March 1994 he was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks in an exchange deal with several players .
In January 1999 Hedican was given together with Pawel Bure and Brad Ference and among others for Ed Jovanovski , Dave Gagner and Kevin Weekes to the Florida Panthers , in which he completed his 500th NHL game in the 1999/00 season .
After four seasons, the American was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes for Sandis Ozoliņš, among others , with whom he was able to reach the Stanley Cup final in 2002 , which, however, was lost to the Detroit Red Wings . In the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs , the team reached the final again and this time won the trophy, it was also Hedican's first Stanley Cup victory in his 15-year career to date. After the 2007/08 season , the American moved to the Anaheim Ducks for a year . In September 2009 he announced the end of his active career.
International
With the national team of the United States , Bret Hedican took part in the Winter Olympics in Albertville in 1992 and in Turin in 2006 , but without being able to win a medal.
