The castle was probably built in the 12th century by the Lords of Morsbach , also known as the "Morsbacher" or "Morsbecken", a family of Eichstätt ministers who were often mentioned in documents from the end of the 12th century . The rule came to the Hochstift Eichstätt in 1550.
