history

The place "Cheskingen" is mentioned for the first time around 895. In 1204 the place fell from the late Margrave Berthold III. from Vohburg to the Bavarian dukes of the Wittelsbach family . It was not until 1293 that the Wittelsbachers were also able to acquire the moated castle, which was probably built around the turn of the millennium, from the Counts of Hirschberg . They made the castle the seat of a ducal keeper , the Kösching care court was first mentioned in 1329. In 1420, the market next to the castle in Kösching was fortified by Duke Ludwig VII (Ludwig in the beard) with ramparts and moats, and Kösching Castle was probably also expanded at this time. Due to a lack of money, the castle and rule of Kösching were repeatedly pledged by the dukes during the 14th and 15th centuries. Later the castle lost its importance, in 1749 it was only the seat of a caretaker administrator , from 1756 Kösching was co-administered entirely by Ingolstadt. In 1803 the nursing court was then completely dissolved and incorporated into Ingolstadt . Kösching Castle was sold by the Free State of Bavaria to private individuals at the beginning of the 19th century, and most of them removed it because it was in disrepair. The ruin was bought by the municipality of Kösching in 1853, who fundamentally converted them into a hospital in 1853/54 . When the new district hospital was built in 1969, the castle building served as a staff residence; today the building next to the Kösching Clinic is a health park.

The castle is listed as a monument number D-1-76-139-7: “Former castle, converted into a hospital since the second half of the 19th century, today a health park, three-story two-wing building with a hipped roof, 17th century, remnants of the previous building attached to the southwest, single-story Gate construction with hipped roof, 16th century; Fortification with circular wall and half-shell towers north and west, bridge and moat in the south, 16th century "as well as ground monument number D-1-7135-0016:" Medieval and early modern findings in the area of the former castle and the early modern palace in Kösching, body graves of the Early Middle Ages ”.
