The Postal Torfelsen is an Outbound Spur castle at 486 m above sea level. NN on the plateau of the Altmühltal above the village of Unteremmendorf a district of the municipality of Kinding in the district of Eichstätt in Bavaria .
The castle stable can be reached via a rock gate , which leads as a narrow bridge over the still preserved neck ditch that separated the castle from the hinterland. To the east and west of it are the two castle stables, Burgstall Saufelsen and Burgstall Hubertusfelsen, a few 100 meters away .
Presumably, the castle was the first time in 1119 testified with Konrad von Emmendorf ministerial family of Emmen villages of, Ministeriale Bishopric Eichstätt built.
The site is protected by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation as a ground monument D-1-7034-0120.
Geotope
The approximately 5 meter wide, 30 meter long and 8 meter high rock gate was created during a cave collapse and has been designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as geotope 176R018. In the cavity register Frankish Alb (HFA) it is natural bridge listed with the register number I 5c. A popular long-distance hiking trail, the Altmühltal Panorama Trail, leads through the gate .
Two smaller karst caves were included in the castle complex . The eastern Schneiderloch (HFA I 5a) is located on the right when looking down the valley and is now accessible via an iron ladder. The western Schneiderloch (HFA I 5b) is located on the left side of the valley and can be entered at ground level. The caves are used for recreational purposes and today have hardly any sintered jewelry worth mentioning.
